Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most spectacular monuments of Europe, that stands in the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle, also known as the Place de l'Etoile. Its construction was began in 1806, por orden de Napoleón I en honor those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars, and today also includes the tomb of the unknown soldier.

The monument has 51 meters height (165 pies) and 45 meters wide, being the second largest triumphal arch in existence. The Roman Arch of Titus was the inspiration for its design. The Arch has one lift to reach the top of the Arch walking up 46 steps or walk up 284 steps in total. At the top is a breathtaking panoramic view of the twelve major avenues leading to the Étoile and of the exceptionally busy roundabout in which the Arc stands.
